JAKARTA: Human fraternity is gaining recognition as a timely and inclusive framework to address the mounting global challenges of division, misinformation, and political fragmentation, particularly within Asia's diverse and dynamic landscape.
Speaking to AWANI International at the sidelines of the International Conference on Human Fraternity (ICHF), held recently in Jakarta, Secretary General of the Asian Democracy Network (ADN), Ichal Supriadi emphasised that the concept resonates with many in Southeast Asia because of its inclusive, values-based nature and crucially, its non-Western roots.

Secretary General of the Asian Democracy Network (ADN), Ichal Supriadi expressed his views to AWANI International l at the sidelines of the International Conference on Human Fraternity (ICHF), held recently in Jakarta.
“Human fraternity came as an alternative stream, a way that people can look beyond politics, beyond both democratic and non-democratic systems, and beyond the camps of the world powers.
"I have good faith in human fraternity with the right support from the people, proper government engagement, and strong leadership behind it,” he noted.
Meanwhile Professor of Politics and Political Science at the Faculty of Social Sciences, International Islamic University of Indonesia (UIII), Prof. Dr. Farish Noor observed strong alignment between the goals of Human Fraternity and the diplomatic styles of Southeast Asian nations like Malaysia and Indonesia.

“I think there is an awareness worldwide that we live at a time where this sense of common human solidarity has been progressively weakened.
“In the spirit of common human fraternity and social solidarity, I think it’s important that we also learn from one another.”
“Therefore I would welcome initiatives like this (ICHF) and I think we need to have more of them,” he added.
The International Conference on Human Fraternity opened on Tuesday (29th July) in Jakarta, bringing together global leaders, religious figures, and academics to promote peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding in an increasingly divided world.
Co-organised by the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity (HCHF) and the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII), the conference carries the timely theme: “Advancing Human Fraternity Amid Global Uncertainty: Towards a More Peaceful and Prosperous Civilization.”
The gathering aims to reinvigorate global dialogue on the shared values of compassion, respect, and human dignity across cultures and beliefs.
