Indonesian man charged with raping boys

A 27-year-old man was charged with raping several boys at his home.

Police had arrested the man, identified as Gondes, at his home in Kapuk Cengkareng, West Jakarta.

He has been charged under the 2014 Child Protection Law, with a maximum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment, The Jakarta Post reported.

Cengkareng Police head Comr. Agung Leksono said the matter came to light after the boys’ parents noticed changes in their children’s behavior.

He said Gondes often dropped the boys to their schools and played together with them.

“He would offer to play with the children and promised them food and would drop them off at school and if the neighborhood was quiet he would take the opportunity to rape them,” Agung was quoted in the article.

So far, five alleged victims have been interviewed by the police.

“From early investigations, he has done it more than once. He lured the victims with money, between Rp 10,000 and Rp 20,000,” Agung said.
