KUALA LUMPUR: Iran's military warned that it will expand attacks to U.S. and Israeli economic interests across the region.

The military's central operational command, Khatam Al-Anbiya, said banks and technology infrastructure linked to the two countries could become targets.

In a statement carried by state television, the command urged people across the region to avoid going within one kilometre of banks, as it could become targets in any retaliation.

"The enemy has given us free rein to target economic centres and banks belonging to the U.S. and the Zionist regime,” he said on Wednesday.

Amid rising security concerns, Citibank said it will temporarily close most of its branches and financial centres in the United Arab Emirates.

Last week, Amazon's cloud computing unit experienced a temporary shutdown after drones struck three of its facilities in the UAE and Bahrain.

Iranian state media reported the attack was carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in response to U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran.
