Jakarta attacks: Where is Facebook's Safety Check, Indonesian netizens ask
The attacks which took place in Jakarta on Thursday left Indonesian netizens wondering on the absence of the Safety Check feature on Facebook.
THE attacks in Jakarta on Thursday not only left many of its citizens "on high alert" for the possibility of another such attack, but also its netizens wondering about another issue: the absence of an important feature on Facebook: the Safety Check.
This service provided by the social media giant was first triggered in response to a terror attack following the terrorist attack in Paris in November 2015.
This was to enable users to update their status and whereabouts for concerned family members and friends.
Apart from that this feature had also been activated during natural disasters, more recently during the earthquake in Manipur, India earlier this year.
This feature was however absent during the multiple blasts which rocked Sarinah, Thamrin in Jakarta yesterday.

Another netizen said this service was also not activated during a bombing in Lebanon, which took place a day before the Paris attacks.
Still cant process the fact that #Facebook does not consider #Lebanon or #Jakarta worthy of their #SafetyCheckJKT initiative #KamiTidakTakut

As the service was not activated, Jakarta folks used the #SafetyCheckJKT hashtag to update about their status and whereabouts.
Still at office safe and hectic #safetycheckJKT I am using that hashtag here cause Facebook ain't doin it.
