Malaysia and Kenya upgrade relations to strategic partnership

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is accorded an official welcome ceremony today, including a 19-gun salute, at the State House, the official residence of Kenya’s President William Samoei Ruto, Nov 24, Nairobi - Bernama
NAIROBI: Malaysia and Kenya have agreed to enhance their bilateral relations into a strategic partnership.
The partnership will cover all fields and not just the traditional agricultural import but also in new technology.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Kenya President William Ruto made the announcement during their joint press conference at the State House after the bilateral meeting between two countries.
“I think there is absolutely no reason why a country like Kenya with such enormous potential and Malaysia cannot effectively collaborate and benefit from this partnership,” said Anwar.
Meanwhile, Ruto welcomed Malaysia’s agreement to eliminate tariffs on agricultural produce and beef, a significant step that will open new market opportunities for Kenyan farmers and strengthen the commercial foundation of the partnership.
“Our discussions today reinforced our long-standing friendship while charting an ambitious future together.
“We reaffirmed our commitment to removing tariff and non-tariff barriers, expanding Kenyan exports to Malaysia and vice versa while deepening cooperation in digital technology and high tech manufacturing,” said Ruto.
Earlier, Anwar was given an official welcoming ceremony at the State House.
This is the final day of Anwar’s two day official visit to Nairobi, Kenya.
