A Malaysian-registered car was found with 475 grams of cannabis estimated to be worth more than S$15,600 (S$1=RM3.05) at the Woodlands Checkpoint Monday.
In a joint statement, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority and the Central Narcotics Bureau said the passenger, a 27-year-old Malaysian man, was arrested.
"The 27-year-old and the seized exhibit were referred to the Bureau for further investigations. Investigations are ongoing," the statement said.
According to the statement, ICA officers found a black bundle underneath the front passenger seat which contained the cannabis.
In Singapore, cannabis is classified as a Class A drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Possession or consumption of cannabis can result in 10 years of imprisonment or S$20,000 fine or both.
Illegal traffic, import or export of cannabis of more than 500 grams or cannabis resin of more than 200 grams or cannabis mixture of more than 1,000 grams may result in the death penalty.
