A Malaysian man was arrested at Kuala Namu Airport in Medan, North Sumatra yesterday afternoon after he was found carrying 1,025 grammes of synthetic drugs in the pocket of his trousers.
The local media said the 27-year-old man from Penang had arrived on a low cost airline flight.
Deli Serdang district police chief Robert Da Costa said security guards at Kuala Namu Airport suspected something as the man was behaving suspiciously when passing the inspection area.
"After a body check, they found 10 packets of drugs wrapped in socks hidden in the pocket of the man's trousers.
"On inspection it was found that the drug was believed to be 1,025 grammes of methamphetamine. The man is being detained for investigation," he said.
Initial investigations revealed the man had brought the drugs to be sold to someone in a hotel in Medan, he said. Indonesia executes convicted drug offenders in the country by firing squad.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo recently declared Indonesia as being in a state of emergency and ordered the authorities to be more aggressive in pursuing its war on drugs.
