Mecca crane crash: Singapore pilgrims safe - MUIS
Singaporeans who require consular assistance can contact the Singapore Embassy in Riyadh or the Singapore Consulate-General in Jeddah or the MFA Duty Officer (24-hours).
The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) has confirmed that Singapore pilgrims are safe from the tragedy of the crane collapse onto the Grand Mosque in Mecca.
The incident on Friday (Sept 11) resulted in the deaths of 107 worshippers and hundreds injured.
In response to media queries, a ministry of foreign affairs (MFA) spokesman said: "Our MUIS representatives in Mecca have confirmed that Singapore pilgrims under their charge are safe."
"The MFA will continue to keep in close contact with Singaporeans in the Kingdom and monitor developments closely.
“We are deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic accident in the Grand Mosque in Mecca. We would like to convey our deepest condolences to the people of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Government and the families of the victims." PHOTO ALBUM: Crane collapse at Mecca's Grand Mosque
