MEXICO CITY: Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Monday that talks with the United States were ongoing to ensure the review process of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) does not "generate uncertainty" for investors.
As part of the ongoing talks, a U.S. delegation will arrive on July 20 to follow up on the review process of the trade agreement, Sheinbaum said at her daily press conference.
"We continue to dialogue with the U.S. government to ensure this does not generate uncertainty, but rather guarantees investment in the coming years," she said.
According to Sheinbaum, although the USMCA has not been automatically renewed, it remains in effect until 2036, with annual reviews conducted during that period.
The USMCA, in effect from July 1, 2020, is a trilateral trade pact that replaces the North American Free Trade Agreement. On July 1, 2026, the United States officially declined to renew the agreement for another 16-year term, triggering an annual review process until the pact expires in 2036.
