Moderate earthquake hits Java

A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 on the Richter scale occurred on Java island at 10.45pm, today.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Meteorology (MET), the earthquake's epicentre was 151km southwest of Tasikmalaya, Indonesia and 1,097km southwest of Tebedu, Sarawak.

The department said there was no tsunami threat.
