Moderate earthquake strikes northern Sumatra

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale struck in the west coast of northern Sumatra, Indonesia at 7.26am today.

The Meteorological Department in a statement said the epicentre of the quake was 22 kilometres (km) West of Simeulue, Indonesia and 566 km southwest of Lumut, Perak.

The department said the quake did not pose any tsunami threat. - BERNAMA
