MOSCOW: US billionaire Elon Musk accused outgoing US President Joe Biden of treason on Thursday over the sale of materials intended for the construction of a wall on the southern border with Mexico, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
"100% Treason," Musk said on X, commenting on a post, which accused the Biden administration of deliberately opening the border to migrants by selling off construction materials and dismantling barbed-wire fences along the border.
The Daily Wire reported in December, citing US Customs and Border Patrol officials, that the Biden administration was selling off wall panels at a government auction in an effort to thwart President-elect Donald Trump's plans to curb migration before he took office. The bidding for each set of wall panels began at a mere US$5. The president-elect filed a motion with a Texas court, which ruled to block the sale.
Tougher border controls became a key point of Trump's 2024 re-election campaign. He declared a state of emergency during his first presidential term to redirect Pentagon funds toward the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico.
