Myanmar state media says former president Win Myint freed in prisoner amnesty

Myanmar has freed its former president Win Myint as part of an amnesty that saw the release of 4,335 prisoners, state media reported on Friday.

Win Myint has been "granted a pardon and the reduction of his remaining sentences under specified conditions", state broadcaster MRTV said.

Win Myint, an ally of Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, served as president from 2018 and 2021 but was ousted by a military coup.
