THE Dutch government is ready to shelve the order that gave it power to block or change key corporate decisions at chipmaker Nexperia if China resumes exports of critical chips, Bloomberg News reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

AI Brief
  • A dispute over Chinese control of Dutch chipmaker Nexperia disrupted auto production and led to staff furloughs.
  • The Netherlands may suspend its export ban if supply shipments resume and are verified in the coming days.
  • Nexperia chips are vital across industries, and Dutch officials say they expect deliveries to resume soon.

If the shipment of supplies resumes and is verified in the coming days, the Dutch are willing to suspend the ministerial order as soon as next week, the Bloomberg report said.

Reuters could not immediately verify the report. Nexperia did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

A shortage of Nexperia chips following a dispute with China over ownership and control of the Dutch company has disrupted auto supply chains, hit production and caused some buyers to furlough staff. The chips are also widely used in industrial, computing, mobile and consumer products.

The Netherlands' economy minister, Vincent Karremans, said on Thursday he trusts computer chips made by Nexperia will reach customers in Europe and the rest of the world in the coming days.
