NZ Prime Minister hopes people to restore confidence in NZ products

New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key hoped that consumers will restore their confidence in New Zealand's products after the Fonterra's scandal. In an interview with China Central Television (CCTV) Friday in Auckland, he said the New Zealand government will investigate into the case to find out the reason of the scandal and the people who should be held responsible for it. By doing so, the government is intended to take care for the international as well as domestic consumers any concerns they might have and ensure that they feel confident in our products. "We obviously regret" John Key said, "and we're going to do everything to hold Fonterra to account for that." Also, he said changes will be made if they are necessary on either the government side or Fonterra, and messages will be delivered to all markets, particularly the Chinese market. Meanwhile, Key hoped that consumers will restore their confidence in New Zealand's products given the fact that the nation has always been placing high value on its food safety record. The New Zealand dairy co-operative Fonterra revealed on Saturday that 38 tonnes of its whey protein used by other manufacturers, including baby formula manufacturer Nutricia, was contaminated with a bacterium that can cause botulism.
