Palestinian President ready to work with Trump, mediators to achieve comprehensive peace

During a joint press conference with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah on Monday, President Abbas highlighted the crucial role Greece, supported by the European Union, can play in advancing peace and stability in the region and beyond.

The president underscored the urgent need to pressure the Israeli government to halt actions undermining Palestinian national institutions, attacks on Christian and Islamic holy sites, and the erosion of the two-state solution through settlement expansion and colonist violence, while emphasising the critical importance of releasing the withheld Palestinian tax revenues.

President Abbas also underscored the urgent need to implement President Trump's plan and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 by enforcing the ceasefire, ensuring the immediate flow of humanitarian aid, including food, medicine and shelter supplies.

As well as preventing displacement, ensuring the immediate withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces and enabling the Palestinian government and its security agencies to fully assume their responsibilities, in addition to accelerating reconstruction efforts.

President Abbas described the visit as reflecting the deep historical friendship between the two countries and peoples, highlighting shared values within the framework of Mediterranean neighbourhood relations and EU partnership.

He expressed appreciation to Greece for its supportive positions on Palestinian rights in international forums, its firm commitment to achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, and its humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza.
