IRANIAN President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday (February 26) reiterated Tehran’s opposition to developing nuclear weapons as indirect talks with the United States resumed in Geneva.
“The Supreme Leader has already said that we will not have nuclear weapons at all," said Pezeshkian, referring to an early 2000s religious decree by Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that bans the development of nuclear weapons.

Pezeshkian was speaking ahead of a third round of nuclear talks with the U.S., which continues to accuse Tehran of seeking nuclear weapons.
In Geneva, Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that the negotiations with the U.S. would focus solely on nuclear topics and the lifting of sanctions, and that Tehran’s “position is clear”.
Meanwhile, in Tehran, some people voiced scepticism that negotiations with Washington would yield lasting results. "We probably won't get a result (with the U.S), because neither will they stop their enmity, nor are we willing to back down from our ideals," said Tehran resident Nikooparast.
The third round of talks in Geneva, which began on Thursday morning, will discuss Iran's nuclear program against the backdrop of a huge U.S. military buildup in the Middle East ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump.
