Plane carrying 67 people crashes in Kazakhstan - Local authorities

An Azerbaijan Airlines plane carrying 67 passengers crashed in the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan, on Wednesday.

According to Kazakh authorities,12 people survived the incident.

The Embraer 190 aircraft was travelling from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia.

Kazakh authorities said that firefighting teams were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the fire, while the surviving passengers are being treated in the hospital.

It is understood that the aircraft was instructed to make an emergency landing in Aktau after its destination was changed to Grozny due to heavy fog.

Investigators said they are examining the cause of the incident and are not ruling out any possibilities, including technical issues.
