Prayut accepts Trump's invitation to visit US
The Thai leader also congratulated Trump on his election as the US 45th president and on his first 100 days in office.
Thai Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has accepted an invitation by US President Donald Trump to visit the country during a telephone conversation between the two leaders Sunday night.
In the 9.30pm (local time) call, the Thai leader also invited Trump to visit Thailand at a convenient time, according to a statement issued by deputy government spokesman, Lt Gen Werachon Sukondhapatipak, here Monday.
"The Prime Minister and the President of the United States reaffirm the long-standing alliance between Thailand and the United States. Both countries stand ready to enhance bilateral cooperation in all dimension," it said.
Prayut also expressed his appreciation to the president for his confidence in the Thai government and in the country.
According to the statement the prime minister commended the 184-year old relationship between the two countries and affirmed Thailand''s readiness to support and promote bilateral cooperation in all fields, particularly trade, investment and security.
Bangkok supported the constructive role played by the US in maintaining peace and security in the region.
The Thai leader also congratulated Trump on his election as the US 45th president and on his first 100 days in office.
