Putin: Russia to expand military cooperation with allies, modernize armed forces

Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 organised by Roscongress Foundation, Putin said Russia’s defense industry has significantly increased production capacity and is actively developing new types of weapons and military equipment.

“Our military-industrial complex has taken the right path, Enterprises have ramped up output and are creating advanced weaponry. We will continue adopting new technologies to enhance the combat readiness of the Russian military and upgrade our infrastructure with cutting-edge systems proven in real-world conditions.” Putin said.

In addition to domestic modernization, Putin emphasized the Kremlin’s intention to deepen military collaboration with partner nations.

“We plan to expand military-technical cooperation with friendly countries, This includes not just the supply and modernization of weapons, but also joint development projects, training programs, and the establishment of turnkey production facilities.” He said

The move signals a strategic pivot by Moscow to deepen defense ties with non-Western allies amid ongoing geopolitical isolation from the West.

Putin also touched on broader trade and economic objectives, stating that Russia aims to enhance trade partnerships by removing market barriers, identifying new opportunities, and increasing investment collaboration with international allies.

The announcements come as Russia continues to reorient its global partnerships in response to Western sanctions and diplomatic tensions, particularly in the wake of the conflict in Ukraine.
