AFTER more than a decade of donning the same uniform, pilots for Australia carrier Qantas Airways received a 'wardrobe makeover', including an attire tailor-made for women pilots.
This is a first for Qantas, as women pilots previously wore trousers and shirts made for men.
As reported by Vogue Australia, designer Martin Grant helmed the makeover project and the new designs were shown at a show in Carriageworks, Sydney last Friday.
According to Grant, women pilot would still be wearing jackets and pants but with a few tweaks.
"It's the first time their uniform has been addressed, because up until now they has been sort of squeezed into men's uniforms.
"They actually don’t mind having a uniform that's very close to the men's and so I've just feminised it in the cut, the jacket is more fitted.
"Everything is more streamlined and tailored, (and) the pants more narrow," Grant told Vogue Australia.
Qantas also uploaded a video explaining the uniform makeover on their YouTube page.
Meanwhile, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce was also pleased with the new uniform, saying that Grant had taken it "to the next level".
"We believe our pilots are the best in the world, thanks to Martin they're the best dressed in the world," Joyce told Sky News.
