DUBAI: Qatar condemns Israel's violations and practices in the Palestinian territories, and its continuous violation of the Gaza ceasefire, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani said on Tuesday (October 22) in the opening session of the Shura Council.

AI Brief
  • Israel and Hamas recommitted to the truce after a deadly flare-up threatened to derail the agreement.
  • Trump's envoys met Netanyahu to keep the ceasefire plan on track and move toward its second phase.
  • Israel warned any breach of the "yellow line" military pullback zone would be met with force.

Israel and Hamas have both recommitted to the ceasefire plan brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump since Sunday's flare-up in which a Palestinian attack that killed two soldiers prompted an Israeli bombardment killing at least 28 people in Gaza.

U.S. envoys met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday aiming to corral Israel and Hamas to get the Gaza ceasefire plan back on track after an explosion of violence over the weekend that threatened to derail the week-old truce.

The new ceasefire took effect on October 10, halting two years of war, but the Israeli government and Hamas have been accusing each other of violations of the ceasefire for days.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the "yellow line" to where Israeli forces had pulled back under the ceasefire deal would be physically marked and that any violation of the ceasefire or attempt to cross the line would be met with fire.
