THE Kremlin said on Thursday (September 24) that Russia wants a peace settlement on Ukraine, not a temporary ceasefire.
Commenting on Ukrainian Foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha's statement that Kyiv is ready for unconditional ceasefire, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reiterated that Russia's position on Ukraine hasn't changed.
"As for a ceasefire, we reiterate once again: we are open to a peace settlement process, but we believe that it is peace that should be sought, rather than a temporary ceasefire. Our position on this has not changed", Peskov said.
Ukrainian Foreign minister at UN Security Council meeting in New York on Wednesday (September 23) said that Ukraine is ready for a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire and calls on Russia to agree to the same terms. According to the minister, Kyiv agreed to a full ceasefire back in March 2025. Now, the Ukrainian side calls on Moscow to take the same step and move to peace negotiations.
