IRAN'S Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday (September 14) that Saudi Arabia had requested the postponement of a meeting between Tehran and Gulf powers that was due to take place in Oman.
Iranian officials had said they would attend that gathering with Gulf Arab states to present an agreement with Oman on governing shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, which carried about a fifth of global oil supplies before the war.
Middle East diplomacy appeared to falter on Monday as the meeting between Iran and other Gulf powers was postponed, while attacks around the region’s two most important oil transit routes heightened concerns about global energy supplies.
The postponement came after Saudi Arabia decided to shut down, at least for now, its pipeline that has served as the main route for Middle East oil exports bypassing the Strait of Hormuz.
