A journalist was found dead at his home here yesterday evening, local television Channel NewsAsia (CNA) reported.
Chong Chee Kin, 39, was found dead on his bed at his home in Kim Keat Road by family members and friends who had gone to his house. They called the police.
According to CNA, Chong began his career with The Straits Times and left last month to join TODAY, where he was to take up the post of news editor in two weeks.
A 14-year veteran in journalism, he won numerous awards during his career at The Straits Times, including the Young Journalist of the Year award and Story of the Year prize.
A recipient of the Singapore Press Holdings scholarship, Chong joined The Straits Times in 1998, beginning his career as a crime reporter. He rose through the ranks to become the paper's assistant news editor.
His most recent role at The Straits Times saw him oversee the online integration of the newsroom, where he was responsible for breaking news for the paper's website. He also played an active role in supervising and training rookie reporters.
