Singapore's first Zika patient discharged from CDC

A man who was Singapore's first imported case of Zika was discharged today, from Tan Tock Seng Hospital's Communicable Disease Centre, reports Channel NewsAsia.

Quoting the Ministry of Health and the National Environment Agency, the report said tests carried out by the National Public Health Laboratory on the 48-year-old's blood samples confirmed he tested negative for the Zika virus.

"This means that he will not transmit the virus even if he was bitten by an Aedes mosquito. The patient is well and has made full recovery," it said, adding that his family members had not reported any Zika symptom.

Although there was a reported case of the first Zika virus incident in Singapore, the Malaysian Health Ministry has not issued any restriction to Malaysians to go in and out of the neighbouring country.

Malaysia's Health Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya, however, advised Malaysians who wished to visit the island republic to always be alert, especially if faced with symptoms like fever.
