At least 31 people died after a Taiwan TransAsia Airways plane crashed into the Keelung River in Taipei on Wednesday morning. Updates from the local civil aeronautics authority as of 6:00 a.m. Thursday revealed the crash also left 15 people injured and 12 others missing, Xinhua news agency reported. The bodies of the captain and two co-pilots along with the plane's two black boxes have been discovered. Flight GE235 was heading for Kinmen from Taipei with 53 passengers on board including 31 from the Chinese mainland when it crashed ten minutes after takeoff. Rescue work was suspended since 2:00 a.m. and did not resume until around 6:30 a.m. Thursday. The aircraft plunged into the river at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday after one of its wings clipped a taxi on an elevated freeway. TransAsia Airways was founded in 1951 and was Taiwan's first private airline.
