Thai authorities take down 200 inappropriate URLs
The Thai government receives good cooperation from Google, YouTube, Line and Facebook in removing inappropriate contents, in accordance with several Thai laws.
Thai authorities have taken down 200 URLs (uniform resource locators) or web addresses which displayed inappropriate contents, including those deemed insulting to the monarchy.
Deputy Prime Minister, ACM Prajin Janthong who also serves as acting Digital Economy Minister said, the action was taken under the National Council of Peace and Order (NCPO) Order No.26/2014 as well as the Computer Crime Act 2007.
"Last month, the authorities found 1,300 inappropriate URLs, with 1,200 of the total number discovered after the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Oct 13 until the end of October," he told the media, today.
He said the government received good cooperation from Google, YouTube, Line and Facebook in removing inappropriate contents, in accordance with several Thai laws.
Thai authorities according to Prajin, had also sought a meeting with Facebook executives on the matter.
Last week, Thai police announced that they had arrested several people under the lese majeste law and requested cooperation from seven countries to extradite Thais who fled overseas to escape the law. -- Bernama
