Thai police seizes 600 kg 'ice' destined for Malaysia

Narathiwat's Police Chief Pol Maj Gen Narin Busaman said police, acting on a tip-off, raided a house at a village in Muno in the subdistrict of Sungai Kolok, Narathiwat, and discovered the ‘ice’ hidden inside 15 sacks in the kitchen at 1 pm (local time) yesterday.

He said police later arrested two suspects in Sg Kolok near the Thailand-Malaysia border – a 30-year-old man who is the son of the house owner, and a 31-year-old man.

“After the police raided the house, the duo, who were hired to deliver the drugs to agents, went into hiding and attempted to sneak into Malaysia via illegal routes. However, we managed to arrest them.

“Initial investigation found that the house is used as a transit point before smuggling the drugs to Malaysia.

“Now, we are expanding the investigation to hunt down the mastermind,” he told Bernama when contacted.

Narin said the raid yesterday followed a large seizure of ‘ice’ in Sungai Kolok on July 2 believed to be destined for Malaysia.

"After we confiscated the 1.4 tonnes of ‘ice’ (on July 2), we believed the drug syndicate will make another attempt to move the drugs to cover the loss. However, we will expand the investigation,” he said.

He added that police will investigate further to determine whether the house owner, 54, is also involved in smuggling the drugs.
