Thailand Cabinet approves 22.4 billion baht domestic tourism package

Thailand’s Cabinet yesterday approved a domestic tourism package worth 22.4 billion baht (100 baht=RM13.75) to boost the tourism sector hit hard by COVID-19 pandemic.

Deputy government spokesperson Trisuree Traisoranakul said, the plan, to be rolled out from July to October, included offering 2,000 baht incentives to 1.2 million medical personnel and health volunteers for domestic trips.

Under the plan, she said domestic travellers would receive a discount of 40 per cent on accommodation limited to 3,000 baht per night and for a maximum of five nights.

Travellers will be given 600 baht per day for spending.

To boost domestic tourism, a discount of 40 per cent will be given on air and bus tickets, up to a limit of 1,000 baht, she added.

Applicants will be able to register for the plan via a Krungthai Bank platform.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the relevant ministries and agencies are discussing on travel bubbles plan on health and safety aspects.

“Business travellers including engineers will be among those allowed to enter the kingdom under 'travel bubbles' plan.

“The matter will be finalised at the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) meeting soon,” he said.

Meanwhile, Thailand has reported zero new COVID-19 cases and fatalities over the last 24 hours with total cases remaining at 3,135 and 58 deaths.

The kingdom has recorded no new local transmission for 22 consecutive days.
