WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump signed four executive orders aimed at reviving the coal mining industry and unleashing the energy production in the United States, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
"Today, we're taking historic action to help American workers, miners, families and consumers. We're ending Joe Biden's war on beautiful clean coal once and for all," Trump said in his opening remarks on Tuesday.
Trump signed the orders during a ceremony at the White House, attended by senior US officials, lawmakers, and coal industry workers.
According to White House Staff Secretary Will Scharf, the first order directs all federal departments and agencies to eliminate discriminatory policies against the coal industry. It also lifts the leasing moratorium that restricts new coal projects on federal land. Additionally, the order aims to expedite permitting and funding for new coal initiatives to promote the industry's growth.
The second order imposed a moratorium on Biden-era policies, threatening to shut down coal plants, to ensure that they are able to continue producing power and jobs in the coal industry, Scharf added.
The third executive order, as noted by Scharf, aims to enhance grid security and reliability by ensuring that US grid policies prioritise secure and effective energy production and transmission, rather than implementing policies that discriminate against reliable power sources such as coal and other fossil fuels.
The fourth executive order instructs the US Justice Department to actively pursue and investigate radical leftist policies in Democratic states that discriminate against coal and are deemed illegal or unconstitutional.
