DOHA: U.S. President Donald Trump met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim Hamad Al Thani in Doha on Wednesday, marking the first visit by an American president to Qatar in over two decades.
Their talks covered a broad agenda including regional peace, investment opportunities, energy cooperation, and security ties.
During the bilateral engagements in Doha, the signing of an aviation agreement that will see Qatar purchase jets from U.S. aerospace giant Boeing also took place.
Earlier in Riyadh, Trump addressed Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) leaders at a summit, where he reaffirmed Washington’s strategic commitment to the region.
On the sidelines, he also met Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, following the surprise announcement that U.S. sanctions on Syria would be lifted.
Trump’s arrival in Saudi Arabia was met with an elaborate welcome, culminating in the signing of a $142 billion defense deal and a broader pledge by Riyadh to channel $600 billion in investments into the U.S. economy.
The president’s four-day tour of the Gulf will wrap up in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.
