THE U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Tuesday that the Strait of Hormuz is currently under the control of the U.S. military and its regional partners, in response to remarks by the navy commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
In a post on social media, the CENTCOM said that U.S. forces had helped regional partners in the Gulf transport more than 19 million barrels of crude oil through the strait the day before.
Earlier the same day, IRGC navy commander Ali Azmaei threatened to sink any U.S. warship that approaches the Strait of Hormuz.
He said the expensive U.S. warships had moved 700 kilometers away from the strait to avoid Iranian missiles.
Azmaei stated that U.S. warships "do not dare" enter the waterway due to their vulnerability, warning that Iran is waiting to sink any ship that approaches the entrance to the Strait.
