Woman dies while browsing through social media site with iPhone 4

Yevgenia Sviridenko, 24, was reportedly browsing through VKontakte, the Russian equivalent of Facebook, when she was electrocuted by a smartphone charger after her iPhone 4 fell into the bathtub, the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper reported according to The Moscow Times.

Her lifeless body was found by her housemate, Yaroslav Dubinina, 23, who went to check on the young women when she became concerned by how long Sviridenko had spent in the bathroom.

“I walked in and saw her lying there all pale in the water. Her phone was also in the water. I pulled my friend out and noticed that her body was shaking from the shock,” Dubinina was reported as saying.

An ambulance had been called to the home, but efforts to resuscitate Sviridenko were unsuccessful.

Police are now investigating why the phone charger did not apparently cut out and did not reveal whether the phone was a licensed Apple product or not.

Russian media reported however, Sviridenko’s iPhone 4 had still been working despite falling into the water because an automatic update had been posted on her social media page saying she had called the emergency services telephone number.

Sviridenko’s death comes days after a 16-year-old girl died in the Bashkortostan republic after taking her phone charger in the bathroom as she was taking a shower.
