All the single mothers, put your hands up!
After Valentine’s, another day celebrated with loads of love and passion, is Mother's Day. A day dedicated to all the mothers around the world.
A mother, who carries her infant for nine months, goes through the worst kind of pain while giving birth.
For the children, they look forward to this day to present their mothers with beautiful gifts and spend the day with them as a way to repay for all the pain and struggles they go through daily.
Mother’s Day is often a day of rest for most moms with kids who understand its significance. However, there are some mothers who today is no different from yesterday, or indeed; tomorrow.
For the single mothers, they have to go through their daily struggles to make ends meet with no rest, even on Mother’s Day.

For the single mothers, they have to go through their daily struggles to make ends meet with no rest, even on Mother’s Day.
Astro Awani spoke to a few single working mothers, and found many who struggle when they are left as the sole bread winner of the family.
They however never give up for the sake of their children by putting education as a priority.
Primary school teacher, R.Kalawathy, 54 has been teaching for over 30 years and a mother of two girls, said there are many children in her school brought up by their moms who are single mothers.
“Many of our students here come from single parent families, including our female security guard.
“We try to give motivation and encouragement to the children as well as the mothers. It’s not easy but I understand their feelings and struggle because I am in the same situation,” Kalawathy said.
Kalawathy added the school also helps by providing aids for single mothers with free meals everyday and free uniforms as well as school shoes for the students.
Lakhsmi (not her real name), 34 works as a security guard at the school She has two daughters.
Her husband is in jail because of a drug dealing case. She works from 6am untill 7pm, seven days per week and doesn’t take leave even when she is not well because her wages will be deducted.
“I work for the sake of my kids. I want to give them the best,” she said.
Salinah, 37, mother of four has been juggling work and her kids since her husband’s sudden death. As a clerk, with very small income, Salinah works hard to provide for her kids.
“I don’t earn much, I have other commitments and I need to provide food and proper education for my four children,” she said.
Her daily routine revolves around her kids from sending them to school in the morning, picking them up at lunch hour, sending them for extra classes in the evening and helping them with their homework at night.
Salinah, who isn’t well educated, gives importance to her children’s education. Salinah wants her kids to be well educated and be successful in the future and doesn’t want them to struggle like her.
Meanwhile, Ragini, 30, who also has two beautiful daughters been working as a cleaner in most of the banks at a small town near Semenyih since her husband left her.
She too gives priority for her kid’s education.
“My husband left me and our kids few years ago without any explanation. I don’t know the reason why he left us untill now.
“There were many times I broke down but seeing my kids gives me hope and meaning to my life. I will not give up; I want my kids to be successful,” said Ragini emotionally.
