COME September 1, mandatory solid waste separation will be implemented across all households in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Pahang, Johor, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis and Kedah.
Malaysians in these states have exactly four months from that date to get used to separating their household solid waste before enforcement takes place under the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007 (Act 672) from Jan 1, 2016.
To start off, one can first try composting food scraps at home as a typical household throws away an estimated 215 kilogrammes of food waste each year.
