THEY say starting young gives children the potential to become a champion in the future. And school holidays are really the best time for kids to train on their favourite sporting activities, at the same time keeping them active and healthy.

Growing up with MILO®, I too have tasted the benefits of the energy and nutrients the beverage provided me, preparing me for a full day of football, martial arts and even a mind-challenging game of chess during my school days.
There is a wide range of sporting activities children can do during the holiday season, and among the top three are badminton, football and circuit training.
It is important for them to engage in sporting activities as it helps them build up their character and self-confidence, learn teamwork, and develop not only a healthy body but also a healthy mind.
The mind is powerful
We all know that a healthy mind is very important, as the mind is what keeps you going when your body is drained. It is more powerful than what everyone thinks as it has the ability to drive people to their full potential.
But, the mind alone is not enough - you need the combination of good nutrients and a healthy lifestyle.
When you combine a healthy breakfast with a nutritious drink like MILO®, you are preparing your children to grow up physically strong and maintain a healthy weight.
Every champion will tell you that they have faced their fair share of detractors. So it is important to train our kids not to be afraid or discouraged by negative thoughts or words from negative people. Only strong minds and body can ward off negativity.
Importance of support
When they say ‘no man is an island’, it means that is important to have friends and family to support your children in whatever they do. Always give them the encouragement they need and never ever ridicule their dream of being a champion. Also, being a champion means being successful, and in order to be successful, one must earn it by working hard and training hard towards their goal.
At this early stage in their life, kids will experience failure in the form of bad grades, not being selected for the school team, or when they don’t win a sports tournament. But when any of this happens, it is important to let your kids themselves know that they are not failures. Never scold them or say they are not good.
Tell them to see that as a time for them to reflect and review their efforts and routine. It is a time for both parents and children to keep calm, be strong and continue the effort. Don’t let it dampen their spirits, instead, encourage them to #nevergiveup.
Never give up
I’m sure every kid wants to be like their favourite hero Datuk Lee Chong Wei. But Chong Wei did not win all the time. He too had his ups and downs.
His losing streak to China’s Lin Dan, and subsequent doping issue, did not break his spirit to rise up again and win back-to-back titles in China and Hong Kong recently. What a great champ!
The top 3 activities
Badminton:
Badminton is a sport that trains us to have lightning fast reflexes. One also must have endurance, strong bones… and a super strong mind. Plus, badminton is so fun, your children won’t realize that they’re actually training.

Football:
Football is a sport that teaches us the spirit of teamwork and support from teammates. It is a very good example of ‘no man is island’ as it is impossible to win a tournament by just relying on one man. Besides keeping them healthy, it also teaches them patience.
