Heck, it's a match!

I am not a big follower of the Hollywood “who’s who” but I, along with billion others, cannot help noticing the news in the showbiz that went viral instantaneously in the past week just as Justin Bieber took to Instagram to post throwback images of the good old days with Selena Gomez.

Years later, will the pair of lovebirds eventually find each other?

In the game of love, we’ve been told, there are unspoken rules that both genders abide by in the quest to find the “perfect match”.

Did we come on too strong? Did we reveal too much of ourselves too soon? Did we return calls or texts too promptly?

Relationship involves raw human emotions, we cannot coerce people into loving us. What makes a perfect match really? Surely he or she is more than just “10 Traits Your Ideal Soul Mate Should Have”.

My approach to dating and relationship is to be as real as I can be.

When he crosses my mind, I send him a text. If I enjoy his company, I tell him I’d like to see him again. I have no qualms about telling a guy how much he is appreciated.

Our biggest quest is to find a good match who would perceive our qualities as equally desirable.

If the dating world lived by the idea that romance is a game - one where the player who best keeps his or her cool “wins”, I guess I am not very good at it. For I cannot be or behave like who I am not.

I am not one to risk playing mind games with antsy men, nor do I find men who use the word “love” lightly as endearing.

I adore the often under-appreciated little things that a man does to show that he cares. At the end of the day, it is the action, not words that speak volumes about how one feels about you.

But that’s just me.

What we value and look for in relationships differ from one person to the next. There is no single rule book to show us the way to finding love in another.

I do, however, agree with American motivational speaker Anthony Robbins.

“Some of the biggest challenges in relationships come from the fact that most people enter a relationship in order to get something. They’re trying to find someone who’s going to make them feel good. In reality, the only way a relationship will last is if you see your relationship as a place that you go to give, and not a place that you go to take.”
