THERE is always that one special dish (or two or three for some) which we look forward to indulge in come Hari Raya.
For actor and TV host, Karl Shafek, the dish 'Opor Daging' is synonym with his hometown of Pekan, Pahang, as that is the dish surely to be served in his family home and others' in the royal town, each time there is a festivity or when welcoming the month of Syawal.
'Opor Daging' is a delicacy made of red meat cooked and braised in coconut milk. In Pekan, the dish is commonly cooked 'rendang' style where the curry is stirred for hours until caramelised.
Karl Shafek, a finalist on the reality TV show MasterChef Selebriti Malaysia, said 'Opor Daging' is a true favourite of his family and relatives back home because it can be eaten with pretty much anything – rice, bread or even 'ketupat'.
