The problem faced by extra-large sized people in getting fashionable clothes for Hari Raya Aidilfitri has now been solved with the designs by a growing number of designers who understand their predicament.
One such designer is Den Wahab who sells these clothes at his outlet in Wisma Yakin, Jalan Masjid India here.
According to the manager, Batrisyia Balqis Zaharudin, 22, for the first time, the outlet is selling ''kurta'' from the XL size to XXXXXXL (6 XL) in various colours and patterns.
She added that the material used for the clothes was suitable for these people who often sweat profusely.
"All these clothes are sold at RM160 each and this is a collaboration between Den Wahab with the ROB (Republic of Big) clothes brand. Angah Raja Lawak is the brand ambassador. The clothes have also been designed to make it easy for the wearers to perform ablution," she told Bernama here.
Meanwhile, trader Ramadan Jalil, 33, said the demand for large-sized 'baju Melayu', 'kurta' and 'jubah' was very encouraging during the festive seasons.
Ramadan who has been trading in the Masjid India area for eight years said his shop also had clothes up to the XXXL size, with designs similar to those of normal sizes.
"Previously, I only sold clothes up to XL and many large-sized customers would complain as there was nothing suitable for them," he said.
In the case of customer Mukhlis Muhammad, 28, this year he actually managed to save more than RM150 for his Hari Raya clothes after buying XXXL-sized clothes at the Masjid India area.
"Last year, I had to spend more than RM300 just to buy the material and make one baju Melayu.
"Now, there are more choices for large-sized clothes for people like me. That does not only save money, but also time spent on looking for the material and tailor," he said.
