Malaysian teenagers are more open nowadays.
They are more unreserved and uninhibited talking about sex as their parents once were.
Clinical andrologist Dr Mohd Ismail Mohd Tambi said younger Malaysians are coming forward to actively seek information about a subject once strictly considered taboo.
Dr Mohd Ismail stated that it is an indication that young people today are becoming more conscious of their sexuality and sexual health.
“Some of the couples who are going to get married, come for counselling on sexual matters and fertility.
“Others come to me on issues and symptoms of sexually-transmitted diseases (STDs),” he said in an exclusive interview with Astro AWANI, recently.
Dr Mohd Ismail said some of the teenagers and young adults who seek his advice are made up those who are worried about their sexual health, fertility and STDs.
“Most of them are teenagers who have had sex with older women and men. Some who were wild in their teenage years are now worried about their sexual health.”
He said some teens go to the extent of texting via WhatsApp application -- seeking answers for their queries and issues before coming in for counselling and further tests.
“In a day, I get 200 WhatsApp messages from all over the country. Some are friends and people who got my number from their friends.
He said their questions on sexuality vary from organs, shapes, STDs to fertile window and lubricants.
