Marvel and Cartoon Network theme park to open in Dubai in December
After months of delays, developers for a Marvel Comics theme park in Dubai have announced that the indoor entertainment center that was originally scheduled to open in June will open in December, reports Arabian Business.
The 111,485 square meter park will consist of four themed zones, two of which have already been announced: Marvel Adventure, will be centered on characters such as X-Men and The Avengers, and another based on the Cartoon Network, with characters such as those from Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo.
The themes for the remaining zones will be released in the coming months.
The indoor amusement park, which expects to draw 10,000 visitors a day, is to be part of a self-contained, urban community called the City of Arabia, a multibillion-dollar (USD) retail, residential and entertainment destination that will be home to 32,800 residents.
In addition to the theme park, the community will also feature a Mall of Arabia, Wadi Walk, a waterfront community of residential apartments, outdoor cafés, and Elite Towers, a group of commercial and residential buildings.
Development for the project, meanwhile, hit major roadblocks during the economic crisis when Dubai’s real estate and construction industries suffered setbacks, points out Arabian Business.
The fact that construction on the theme park is continuing and that an opening date has been released, however, signals progress on the City of Arabia project.
