Many have heard the number of hours Malaysian flyweight talent Gianni Subba (9-3) puts into his martial arts game, but a quick conversation with the 26-year-old reveals a more romantic side of the athlete.
“On a scale of 1 to 10 of how romantic I am? Hmm, I’d rate myself a very humble 6 and a half,” the Kuala Lumpur-based athlete replied, chuckling sheepishly.
Subba, who is half Nepalese and half Malaysian, added that although he likes to think that he is pretty romantic, there are others who beg to differ.
“I mean, I always buy flowers,” he swiftly added, before conceding good-naturedly. “Although flowers are romantic, I guess they can get boring.”
Ahead of Valentine’s Day on 14 February, the Monarchy MMA and Bali MMA athlete revealed other kind gestures a guy can do to impress their loved ones.
To the women reading, before you continue any further, Subba is very much taken.
“The most romantic thing that a guy can do is to plan everything out. Have a thoughtful itinerary of things to do,” Subba revealed.
“Ladies like to feel special. Make sure you make her feel like a princess for that day.”
Looks plays an important role too, the ONE Championship star acknowledged, adding that his preferred date-night attire is a collared shirt worn under a leather jacket.
When asked for an ideal 24-hour itinerary on Valentine’s Day, a pause ensued before Subba answered.
“I don’t know whether you’re going to want to spend all day with me,” he joked.
“Maybe in the early morning, we could start with something active – maybe ride some dirt bikes or go hiking. After that, we can grab some brunch, and then maybe go home and have a little break, take a shower, or a nap.
“We’ll go for dinner somewhere nice, followed by a nice walk, or dancing — I like to dance!”
Romance, however, is very much second to his martial arts career, and the flyweight admitted he is craving for more action. He hopes to make his ONE return sometime later this year.
