A Muslim bride took a detour on her big day to lay her wedding bouquet at a shrine set up for the victims of the Sydney Siege at Martin Place, as onlookers broke into applause.
Adorned in a white dress including a head scarf and veil, Manal Kassem, 23, arrived at the memorial with her husband, Mahmod Homaisi.
Her gesture caught the attention of many of social media as thousands shared her photo and video.
“She did it out of respect for her country, that will one day be the country of her children and grandchildren,” said Dina Kheir, the couple’s wedding planner.
The couple had initially planned to take their wedding photos in the city, but postponed those plans after the tragic events that hit the area.
Three people were killed in the 16-hour hostage crisis at Lindt Café, in Sydney, Australia on Dec. 15, 2014.
The victims include mother-of-three Katrina Dawson, 38, Lindt Café manager Tori Johnson, 34, and the gunman.
