A hijab war erupted on social media recently. Sort of.
It was sparked by a tweet from an entertainment and lifestyle portal which stated that the 'bawal' style of hijab was more attractive to men. The same portal further opined that women shouldn’t bother too much about what style of hijab they wear because in the end, the simplest style would be what men would find most attractive.
Netizens, mostly of the fairer sex, were not amused.
They came out in force, arguing that the purpose of wearing the hijab is definitely NOT to solicit compliments from men or grab their attention.
Selecting a style of headscarf has always been a subjective decision for Muslim women. There are many styles available and consumers are spoilt for choice. But what is unanimously agreed upon is the reason for wearing the hijab.
It is first and foremost to fulfill religious requirements.
Not to please men.
