HERTFORDSHIRE, UK: More than 3,000 people gathered at the Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre in Hertfordshire on Saturday, for Malaysia Carnival 2026, a vibrant celebration of Malaysia’s colours, flavours, heritage and community spirit. Organised by the High Commission of Malaysia in London, the carnival welcomed Malaysians, friends of Malaysia and visitors from different backgrounds.
Datuk Indera Azfar Mohamad Mustafar, High Commissioner-Designate of Malaysia to the United Kingdom, officiated the carnival with a message celebrating the shared spirit, diversity and heritage that connect Malaysians and friends of Malaysia.
A major highlight was the Malaysian food village, featuring more than 30 vendors served much-loved dishes including nasi lemak, satay and kuih muih. Visitors also had the opportunity to taste durian brought all the way from Malaysia, offering a distinctive taste of the country’s culinary heritage.
The cultural programme showcased Malaysia’s rich performing arts, beginning with the traditional percussion and folk arts; kompang and dikir barat, followed by Malaysian traditional songs and a powerful Silat Seni Gayong demonstration that further highlighted Malaysia’s living martial arts heritage.
The carnival embodied the spirit of “Kesejahteraan Dinikmati” through the simple but meaningful act of bringing people together. Food was shared, traditions were celebrated, different generations participated and new connections were made, reflecting a vision of well-being that extends beyond prosperity to include community, inclusion and shared joy.
The overwhelming turnout from across the UK and beyond demonstrated the enduring appeal of Malaysian culture and the strength of the connections between Malaysia and its friends in the United Kingdom.
