JOHOR BAHRU:Four districts in Johor were affected by flooding as of 4 pm today with a total of 1,000 victims from 274 families placed at 14 temporary evacuation centres (PPS).

State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said Kulai was the latest district to be hit by floods following incessant rain since Friday morning, after Johor Bahru, Kluang and Kota Tinggi.

"As of 4 pm, six PPS were opened in Johor Bahru, Kota Tinggi (five), Kulai (two) and Kluang (one)," he said in a statement today.

According to Vidyananthan, a total of 690 people from 189 families affected by the floods in Johor Bahru were residents of Kampung Laut Batu 10 Skudai, Kampung Sentosa Barat, Kampung Sentosa Damai, Lorong Aris Batu 8 Skudai as well as residents of Sam Poh old folks home.

All the victims were moved to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Batu 10 Skudai; Kampung Cahaya Baru community hall, Masai; Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Kuo Kuang, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Skudai, SMK Bukit Mutiara as well as Kampung Sungai Tiram community hall.

He said 188 victims from 53 families in Kota Tinggi who were housed at SK Telok Ramunia, SK Sungai Telor, Kampung Muhibbah community hall, SK Sedili Kecil and Kampung Lepau community hall are residents of Kampung Bukit Raja, Kampung Sri Delima, Kampung Sri Jaya, Kampung Muhibbah, Kampung Sedili Kecil and Kampung Lepau.

Meanwhile, in Kulai, 99 victims from 25 families were evacuated from their homes in Kampung Sungai Siam and Kampung Jaya Sepakat to SK Murni Jaya and SK Senai, while 23 people from seven families in Kampung Yap Tau Sah were taking shelter at SJK (Cina) Ping Ming, he said.

He said the Jalan Pengerang-Kota Tinggi was temporarily closed as the road was flooded to a depth of 0.1 metre.

Relevant agencies would closely monitor the situation from time to time, he added.
