About 1,500 Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth members marched carrying buckets to the State Secretariat building here today to demand that the water woes affecting some 1.6 million consumers in Selangor be resolved immediately.
They arrived in front of the State Secretariat building at 11.15am after marching about one kilometre from Dataran Shah Alam.
The group also demanded the resignation of Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali for not handling the issue properly.
Selangor BN Youth chief Zainuri Zainal then submitted a memorandum urging the state government to resolve the issue immediately.
The memorandum was handed over to the Selangor Menteri Besar's political secretary, Shuhaimi Shafiei.
When met by reporters, Zainuri said the state government was only interested in playing politics on the water issue, and hence not looking at finding a permanent solution.
"The state government blames Negeri Sembilan and Pahang for the pollution at Sungai Langat and Sungai Semenyih, however, they fail to notice the illegal factories along the river banks and sand mining at the rivers," he said.
Meanwhile, Selangor MIC Youth chief, D. Kajendran said the water woes shows the Azmin Ali-led government failed to solve the people's problems.
"Since they cannot deliver, make way and return power to BN, he said.
UMNO Youth Exco member Shahril Hamdan said the BN federal government had allocated billions to the state government to restructure the water industry.
"This is not publicised as the federal government does not want to politicise the water issue, as opposed to the state government," he said.
Shahril said the accusation of sabotage leveled by Mohamed Azmin was unfounded, defamatory and malicious. --BERNAMA
