10 Best Happy Meals Throughout The Years

Happy Meal boxes in Sweden now double as a virtual-reality goggles, we have come a long way from when Happy Meals came with little plastic toys like chicken McNuggets dressed as cowboys, Hello Kitty dolls, Snoopy collectables and beanie babies. Kids are now spoilt with a whole new dimension of reality with their Happy Meals.

McDonald’s Sweden is kicking off a campaign with Happy Meal boxes that can transform into virtual-reality headsets and here is a promotional video demonstrating how to unfold the bright-red box to form the VR headset that holds your smartphone.

Since we are feeling somewhat nostalgic, be prepared to grab something from the “Dollar Menu” after you revisit your childhood via these Happy Meal toys – you’ll certainly be craving some Maccas.

We take you back to when times were simpler and meals were happier and toys were more…impractical and ridiculous (yet entertaining). Here are the 10 best Happy Meal toys ranked:

10. My Little Pony – 1985 McDonalds introduced this gender-specific toy thus making boys wonder if it was acceptable for them to want a multi-coloured pony as a toy from McDonalds. But we would fall for these delightful four legged beauties any day.

9. Space Jam Plushies – 1996 Michael Jordan, Bugs Bunny, the Looney Toons = kids going crazy for these toys, which made it very challenging for parents to collect for their children. Chains only had one toy at a time, a strategy McDonald’s instigated from the mid-‘90s on out.

8. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers toys – 1995 One of those rare instances where there wasn’t even one unsatisfactory toy in the batch! Every power ranger was spot on and we loved them!

7. Tiny Toons Flip Cars – 1991 These figures were masterminded! You have a character on each side of the car and if you flip it over, everything changes and you get a totally different car.

6. Sky Dancers – 1997 Pull a string and watch these vibrant fancy fairies thrust into space!

5. Tarzan Action Figures – 1999 Tarzan was absolutely one of the best Disney cartoon films in the ‘90s and whenever we could, we would run to a McDonalds to purchase a meal just for the tree climbing ape, the elephant or even mischievous Terk.

4. Lion King Stuffed Toys – 1998 Which kid did not like Lion King? The answer – none. They did look a little misshapen and as though they survived some sort of nuclear accident, but they were still just as wonderful!

3. Mini Furbies – 1999 If you couldn’t afford the real deal, there were these miniature options that were just as loveable and fascinating. These rock-hard McD’s Furbies can be poked and you can even make their beak flap – kind of.

2. 101 Dalmatians Figures – 1997 There were literally 101 of these figures, 101! And some poor parent had to stand in line for a Happy Meal numerous times to attain these little pets.

1. Beanie Babies – 1997 These tiny plus toys inspired the most popular collectible craze of the ‘90s. Collectors grabbed these toys which were sold at McDonald’s stores between 1997-2000 so quickly that many restaurants exhausted their supplies before the promotion even ended. This was possibly the greatest thing ever to come in a cardboard box along with a cheeseburger and fries! Even though the McDonald’s ones were smaller in size, they still had the tag and we were ferocious for those tags. It was like keeping a sticker on your cap, a status symbol if you will.
