10 taxi drivers have had their licences suspended for three months beginning April 1 by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), for not using the meter when charging passengers.
SPAD Chief Executive Officer Mohd Nur Ismail Mohamed Kamal said taxi operators have also been warned that stern action will be taken against them including revoking their license if this offense is repeated.
“SPAD is serious about taking punitive measures against errant cabbies and we will not hesitate to suspend the licenses of these rogue drivers once we find them guilty,” he said in a statement released today.
He said SPAD would like to reaffirm its commitment to the public that issues on errant and rogue drivers are taken seriously. The regulator and enforcers of land public transport services is also determined to continuously find ways of improving and enhancing the domestic taxi industry.
“We continue to seek the support and cooperation from members of the public and whilst we urge them to send in their videos to us, we ask that they place their safety as priority and take every possible precaution during recording,” he said.
SPAD had previously announced that it will accept videos of taxi drivers caught on camera for not using the meter when charging passengers.
The public can reach SPAD via Twitter @aduanSPAD or email (aduan@spad.gov.my) or the SPAD Aduan hotline (1-800-88-7723)
